چکیده

This paper presents a comparison between Radio Tomographic Imaging (RTI) and Device-free Passive (DfP) tracking in standard WiFi networks. We show that for typical WiFi deployments, tracking methods are able to extract location information from a limited number of streams while imaging methods fail to produce meaningful images. On the other hand, we show that when the number of streams increases, imaging methods are able to actually image the area of interest while tracking methods can only infer the location of the user, but with increased accuracy. We further compare the performance and cost trade-offs involved in choosing between these two systems.

A Lightweight Robust Indoor Radio Tomographic Imaging Method in Wireless Sensor Networks

In recent years, radio tomographic imaging (RTI) is an emerging device-free localization (DFL) technology enabling the localization of people and other objects without requiring them to carry any electronic device. Different from other DFL techniques, the RTI method makes use of the changes of received signal strength (RSS) measured on links of the network to estimate the radio frequency (RF) a...

Mapping plasma structures in the high-latitude ionosphere using beacon satellite, incoherent scatter radar and ground-based magnetometer observations

In the autumn of the year 2000, four radio receivers capable of tracking various beacon satellites were set up along the southwestern coast of Greenland. They are used to reconstruct images of the ionospheric plasma density distribution via the tomographic method. In order to test and validate tomographic imaging under the highly variable conditions often prevailing in the high-latitude ionosph...

Device-Free Indoor Localization Based on Ambient FM Radio Signals

This paper presents the concept of device-free indoor localization using only a passive receiver and ambient FM radio signals. Experimental results based on empirical measurements demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach. The authors also evaluate fine-grained localization performance of the system, its temporal stability, and highlight the role of frequency diversity for passive lo...

Radio Tomographic Imaging-Based Fall Detection

Amongst older adults, falls at home can be deadly. Fall detection systems are an important tool to quickly summon help in the event of a fall. Wearable devices such as help buttons have been a popular approach to the problem; however, studies show that they have a low efficacy in the event of a fall because they require the user to actively remember to use the device. In response to this issue,...

Output-Conductance Transition-Free Method for Improving Radio-Frequency Linearity of SOI MOSFET Circuits

In this article, a novel concept is introduced to improve the radio frequency (RF) linearity of partially-depleted (PD) silicon-on-insulator (SOI) MOSFET circuits. The transition due to the non-zero body resistance (RBody) in output conductance of PD SOI devices leads to linearity degradation. A relation for RBody is defined to eliminate the transition and a method to obtain transition-free c...
